Jason G. Benzaken

Attorney Benzaken was born and raised in the Washington Heights neighborhood in New York City, moving to Boston to attend Northeastern University School of Law.  After graduation, he worked as a staff attorney for the Committee for Public Counsel Services in the Brockton office, representing indigent defendants in the Superior Court.

In 2006, Jason left the public defender’s office and started a private practice focusing on criminal appeals, and soon formed Benzaken and Wood, LLP, with Joshua Wood, also a former CPCS staff attorney.  Although he is no longer working at the public defender’s office, Attorney Benzaken remains committed to the administration of the indigent defense system in Massachusetts and has worked as the Supervising Attorney for the bar advocate program in Plymouth County since 2011.

Attorney Benzaken focuses his practice on criminal defense, post-conviction litigation and appeals, and civil rights litigation and is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.  Attorney Benzaken regularly tries cases in Superior Courts throughout Massachusetts, as well as in Federal Court.  Most recently, at the trial level, he has focused on serious felony cases, primarily murder cases and federal criminal offenses.
